Virus cases exceed 6K for 3rd day | News, Sports, Jobs - Youngstown Vindicator

The number of COVID-19 cases in the state remains high with each of the past three days exceeding 6,000.

It’s the first time since Jan. 5 to 16 that Ohio had at least three days in a row with a minimum of 6,000 COVID-19 cases.

During the past 11 days, all but two exceeded 4,000 cases. Of those 11, six had more than 5,000 daily cases.

The 6,179 new COVID-19 cases reported Friday actually is down from 7,087 on Thursday, but it’s up from the daily average of 4,093 for the past 21 days, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

Fewer than two months ago, the state was averaging about 260 cases per day.

The state had a total of 1,242,268 COVID-19 cases as of Friday with 1,137,129 presumed recovered and 20,947 deaths.

The ODH usually provides death information on Tuesdays and Fridays.

There were 81 additional COVID-19 deaths since Tuesday, including two in Mahoning and one in Trumbull counties.

Mahoning County had 24,604 total COVID-19 cases as of Friday with 22,653 presumed recovered and 625 deaths.

Trumbull County had 18,174 total COVID-19 cases as of Friday with 16,814 presumed recovered and 497 deaths.

Columbiana County had 10,227 total COVID-19 cases as of Friday with 9,327 presumed recovered and 236 deaths. There hasn’t been a COVID-19 death reported in Columbiana since July 13.

VACCINATIONS

There were 6,103,621 people, 52.22 percent of the state’s population, who had at least started getting inoculated as of 6 a.m. Friday, including 9,817 in the previous 24 hours, according to the ODH.

In Mahoning County, 50.51 percent of the population (115,514 people) had received at least one dose while 48.28 percent of the population in Trumbull County (95,582 people) and 40.96 percent in Columbiana County (41,730 people) had as of 6 a.m. Friday, according to the ODH.

There were 5,639,286 people, 48.24 percent of the state’s population, who finished the vaccinations as of 6 a.m. Friday, including 8,067 in the prior 24 hours.

In Mahoning County, 46.63 percent of the population (106,638 people) had completed the process and 44.28 percent of the population in Trumbull (87,656 people) and 37.87 percent of the population in Columbiana (38,586 people) had as of 6 a.m. Friday.
